Self-loving, not self-loathing

This is one of my favourite images I have created. It focuses on self-love and healing, two things I am working on myself.

As a G44 member, I’d be looking forward to using the resources available to create passion projects like this one.

I want to explore issues such as mental health, racism, gender identity and love (to name a few).

I love that G44 supports artists through various programming. I’m thrilled to become a member and elevate my craft.

One Last Look

Something I’ve been always been interested in is film photography. This photo was taken with a DSLR and I tried to give it a film-like look. Of course, it’s not as good as the real thing.

I’ve never shot with a film camera before. I’m excited to become a G44 member and be able to access film cameras and dark rooms. I believe that with this access, my artistic production and appreciation for photography will grow.

Radiation

I wanted to include this shot of my friend Brittnee because of how I was able to capture her personality and essence; she radiates positivity. When I look at this image, I can’t help but smile back.

I also wanted to include this to showcase my studio work. I haven’t had too many opportunities to work in a studio due to budget, access and lack of knowledge.

I would love to be a G44 member and be able to access the studio and equipment to hone my skills and gain comfortability in the space to be able to create images like this one.

Far Cry

This protest, which took place outside the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, was against the Trump Presidency and Canada's subsequent inactions. At the forefront were Islamophobia, Indigenous rights, anti-Black and anti-refugee issues.

I wanted to include this photo because I am very interested in how I can utilize G44’s resources to share and amplify important stories like this one.

The Breakthrough

This was the first photo I took with a DSLR. When I looked at this image back in the camera, I realized how I could use photography as a way to express myself and tell a story.

I wanted this to be the last image I talked about because without it and the epiphany that followed, I wouldn’t have taken the photos above and wouldn’t be the artist I am today.

Whenever I feel like I am not enough or when I’m in a rut, I look back at this image and remember just how far I’ve come.
